Oziel Dias Coutinho is a Paraiban from Itabaiana, born in 1960. He always lived in the lands of the agreste (desertified regions of the Brazilian Northeast), starting his work on wood as a rustic furniture carpenter, a profession that awakened in him the talent for sculpting animals and persons. His work reflects the hardships of the place he lives in: emaciated dogs, goats, donkeys. Yet, this very environment inspires him to create flowers and sensuous women as themes.
