Resendio José da Silva was born in 1941 in Alagoas. A sculptor on wood, he started to chisel his own toys at the age of ten using vegetable boxes. He currently lives and works in his workshop by the São Francisco riverbanks. Using cedarwood, jaca tree wood or mulingu, he fashions playful pieces, uniquely polychromic. With an acute critical sense and a lot of humor, Resêndio creates a vast universe of characters that are born from his sensitive observation of the world around him: popular festivities, Luna parks, typical Brazilian Northeastern scenes. He participated in several important exhibits in this country and his works are coveted and competed over by collectors and galleries.
