Born in the Bahia backcountry in 1944, he came as a child to São Paulo. Starting to paint in the Sixties, authorities in arts, such as Pietro Maria Bardi and Mario Schemberg acknowledged him. He participated in the Ninth São Paulo Biennial, in 1967 and, starting then he embarked on a successful international career, with exhibits in Italy, Belgium, France and Israel. Waldomiro is a necessary reference in Brazilian folk art, he can be found in the chapter “Six Folk Masters” that belongs to the book Genius in the Backlands: Folk Artists of Brazil, published in 1976, by the prestigious critic Selden Rodman. His canvases are currently found at the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, in the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo, at the Inernational Naïf Art Museum in Rio de Janeiro, in museums, galleries and private collections in Moscow, Jerusalem, London, Frankfurt, New York, Bologna, Warsaw, Florence and Tel Aviv.
